Diamond Beach, NJ

If you think of Diamond Beach and the Wildwoods as strictly a summer destination, you may be missing one of the best times of year to visit. Once Labor Day arrives, the crowds begin to thin, the pace becomes more relaxed, and the weather is often perfect for enjoying the beach, boardwalk and everything the area has to offer. There are many things to do in Diamond Beach NJ in September.

The Wildwoods actually refer to this time of year as their “Second Season,” and for good reason. September and October bring a full calendar of festivals, concerts, craft shows, car shows, food events and other activities. Best of all, many of the events are free.

And if you're staying in Diamond Beach, you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the southern end of the island while being just a short drive from all the action.

Enjoy the Beach Without the Summer Crowds. Things to do in Diamond Beach, NJ

One of the best things about visiting Diamond Beach in the Fall is simply being at the beach.

September can bring some of the nicest beach days of the year. The intense summer heat has eased, the crowds are smaller, and you can take a long walk along the shoreline without feeling like you're in the middle of the summer rush.

Diamond Beach is particularly appealing in the fall because it has a quieter, more residential feel than the busier areas farther north. Spend the morning walking the beach, collect seashells, ride your bike or simply sit and enjoy the ocean.

The Wildwoods also have an extensive bike path that runs from Diamond Beach all the way north through the Wildwoods, along the Boardwalk and toward North Wildwood. Fall's cooler temperatures make it an especially enjoyable time to explore the island by bike. See below the many Diamond Beach NJ fall events.

If you're visiting over Labor Day weekend, don't miss the Labor Day Weekend Boardwalk Craft Show.

The 2026 show is scheduled for September 5 and 6 along the southern end of the Wildwoods Boardwalk. You'll find artisans selling handmade jewelry, artwork, home décor, gifts, beach-inspired items and other unique treasures.

It's free to attend and makes for an easy afternoon outing. Walk the Boardwalk, browse the vendors and stop for lunch or a treat along the way.

Here's an event that's a little different—and a lot of fun.

On September 5, 2026, Ed's Funcade World Championship Skee-Ball Tournament takes place at Ed's Funcade on the Wildwood Boardwalk. Preliminary games begin at 7 p.m., with the finals at 10 p.m.

And there's a great bonus: it's free to enter.

Even if you're not competing, watching the tournament is a fun way to experience one of those classic Wildwood traditions that you simply don't find everywhere else.

One of the biggest reasons to visit the Wildwoods in September is the Wildwoods Air Show.

The 2026 show takes place September 12–13, with spectacular military and civilian aircraft performing over the ocean. The U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor Demo Team is scheduled to be part of the 2026 lineup.

The show can be viewed from beaches and boardwalk areas throughout the island, and admission is free.

This is one of those events where staying in Diamond Beach has a real advantage. You can enjoy a quieter home base and then head north for the day's festivities.

The air show weekend also includes other events around the island, including the free Wildwoods Food & Music Festival in Downtown Wildwood.

Listen to Live Music

The summer music season doesn't disappear immediately when Labor Day arrives.

The Wildwood Crest Summer Music Series continues into September, with free concerts at Centennial Park on Saturday evenings. The setting is casual and family-friendly—bring a chair or blanket and enjoy live music near the ocean.

There are also free concerts at Byrne Plaza in Downtown Wildwood. The Music in the Plaza series has Thursday-night performances in early September, giving you another opportunity to enjoy live music without paying for a concert ticket.

For a vacation rental guest, these free concerts are especially nice because you can have dinner somewhere nearby and then head over for an evening of music.

Celebrate the Irish Fall Festival

If you have never experienced the North Wildwood Irish Fall Festival, put this one on your calendar.

The 2026 festival takes place September 25–27 and is one of the largest fall events in the Wildwoods. The streets of North Wildwood fill with music, dancing, Irish vendors, food and entertainment, culminating in the famous parade.

The festival is free and attracts thousands of visitors, making it one of the most festive weekends of the entire fall season.

If you enjoy live music, festivals and people-watching, this is a great reason to make a fall weekend out of your stay in Diamond Beach.

Check Out the Wildwood Kustom Hot Rod & Muscle Car Show

Car enthusiasts have another reason to visit in late September.

The Wildwood Kustom Hot Rod & Muscle Car Show takes place September 25–27, 2026. Cars are displayed along the Boardwalk and at the Wildwoods Convention Center, making it easy to combine the show with shopping, food and a stroll along the ocean.

The Boardwalk portion of the show is free to attend.

For something completely different, head to the beach for Monsters on the Beach.

This monster truck event takes place September 25–27, 2026, with huge trucks, roaring engines, jumps and beachside action.

It is a fun choice for families—or anyone who enjoys watching something a little crazy!

You don't necessarily need a special event to enjoy the Wildwoods in September and October.

The Boardwalk is much more pleasant to explore once the summer crowds have disappeared. You can take your time walking the boards, browse the shops, play some arcade games and stop for your favorite Wildwood treats.

The wide Wildwood beaches and famous Boardwalk remain the heart of the island, but fall gives you a chance to experience them at a much more relaxed pace.

Fall is also a great time to eat your way around the Wildwoods.

The Wildwoods Food & Music Festival on September 12, 2026, combines food, live music, craft vendors and shopping in Downtown Wildwood. The event is free.

Then, on October 17, the Wildwoods Fall Festival takes over Fox Park. The free event features food and craft vendors, live bands, family entertainment and more.

October is also a wonderful time to seek out seasonal food and drinks at the area's restaurants and breweries. With fewer summer crowds, it can be easier to get a table and enjoy a leisurely meal.

Don't Forget About Oktoberfest

If you like the idea of celebrating fall with German food, music and a festive atmosphere, keep an eye on Oktoberfest at Morey's Piers.

The event has become part of the Wildwoods' fall tradition, bringing Oktoberfest-style food, drinks and entertainment to the Boardwalk during the quieter fall season.

It's a fun way to enjoy the Boardwalk even after the traditional summer season has ended.

Take a Day Trip to Cape May

Staying in Diamond Beach also puts you in an excellent position for a fall day trip to Cape May.

When the weather is cooler, it's especially enjoyable to walk through the historic district, browse the shops, enjoy lunch or dinner, and admire the Victorian architecture.

Fall is also a beautiful time to visit the Cape May area because you avoid the heat and crowds of the summer season.

Why Fall May Be the Best Time to Visit Diamond Beach

There is something particularly appealing about Diamond Beach after Labor Day.

You still have the beach. You still have the Boardwalk. You still have great restaurants and plenty of things to do.

But the pace changes.

The beaches become quieter. The roads are easier to navigate. Restaurant waits can be shorter. The weather is often comfortable enough for long walks and bike rides. And the Wildwoods' event calendar remains surprisingly busy.

In other words, you get the best parts of a Jersey Shore vacation without the height of the summer crowds.

So if you've always thought of Diamond Beach as a June-through-August destination, consider giving it a try in September or October. Rent a condo, walk the beach in the morning, head into the Wildwoods for a festival or concert in the afternoon, enjoy dinner by the water, and come back to the peaceful surroundings of Diamond Beach at night.

The Wildwoods' “Second Season” may just become your favorite season at the Shore.
